New Jersey eliminated $120M in medical debt for 77,000 residents using American Rescue Plan funds.

New Jersey, in collaboration with the non-profit Undue Medical Debt, has eliminated $120 million in medical debt for 77,000 residents, as announced by Governor Phil Murphy. This initiative, funded by $900,000 from the American Rescue Plan, allows the purchase of unpayable medical debts at a fraction of their value, which are then erased. Combined with a previous round, a total of $220 million in debt has been wiped for 127,000 residents, targeting low-income individuals.
