Canadian Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon has proposed a 90-day strike freeze and the appointment of a special mediator to resolve ongoing contract negotiations at the Port of Montreal. Both union and management must decide on the proposal by Friday night. This initiative follows an indefinite strike involving nearly 1,200 dockworkers over overtime shifts, which occurred after a previous three-day strike at two terminals. The Maritime Employers Association is reviewing the proposal.
