2.3bn rail bridge construction begins over Potomac River, connecting DC and Arlington, VA.

Construction has begun on a new two-track rail bridge over the Potomac River, connecting Washington, D.C., and Arlington, Virginia. The $2.3 billion project, aimed at alleviating congestion on the century-old Long Bridge, will enhance passenger rail service and improve reliability by separating freight and passenger lines. Funded partly by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the project includes a pedestrian bridge and is expected to be completed by 2030.
