Australia plans a multi-billion dollar investment to transform the Henderson shipyard in Western Australia into a maintenance hub for nuclear-powered submarines, creating about 10,000 jobs. The initial A$127 million (US$85 million) will fund facility upgrades over three years. This initiative supports the AUKUS defense pact with the US and UK, involving the acquisition of nuclear submarines by the early 2030s. The total investment is expected to reach tens of billions over the next 20 years.
