2022 Washington State University study finds older adults feel more physical discomfort in high heat without mood decline like younger adults.

A study from Washington State University found that older adults feel more physical discomfort in high heat but do not experience a corresponding decline in mood like younger adults do. Conducted with 400 participants in Chicago during summer 2022, the research highlighted that perceived temperature significantly influences emotional states. The study aims to explore the link between high temperatures and spikes in violent crime and mental health issues. Further investigation in a controlled setting is planned.
