Longueuil, Quebec receives permit for deer cull in Michel-Chartrand Park due to overpopulation, upheld by Court of Appeal.

The City of Longueuil, Quebec, has received a permit for a white-tailed deer cull in Michel-Chartrand Park due to overpopulation, which has grown from 32 deer in 2017 to 114 in 2023. Despite opposition from animal rights groups, the Court of Appeal upheld the cull as legal. Scheduled for this fall and valid until February 2025, the operation will use air rifles and temporarily close the park, with plans to donate the meat to local food banks.
