European scientists, Lhyfe, and Flexens launch BOxHy project with UN support to combat Baltic Sea oxygen depletion, exploring hydrogen production and oxygen injection methods.

European scientists, alongside startups Lhyfe and Flexens, are launching the BOxHy project to combat oxygen depletion in the Baltic Sea, which threatens marine biodiversity. Supported by the UN, the initiative aims to produce hydrogen at sea and explore the feasibility of injecting oxygen at depth, a method used in some North American lakes. The project is in the planning phase, with a pilot expected to commence in 2025, and could require 20-30 years and multiple platforms for full reoxygenation.
