NSW Health issues public health alert for rotavirus and norovirus gastroenteritis surge among school-reopening children.

NSW Health has issued a public health alert due to a surge in gastroenteritis cases, primarily rotavirus and norovirus, as schools reopen. Over 2,700 emergency department visits were reported last week, especially among children under five. To curb the outbreak, parents are advised to maintain good hand hygiene and keep unwell children home for 48 hours after symptoms resolve. Most recover with rest and hydration, but vulnerable groups may need urgent care.
