Auckland University of Technology study reveals higher incidence of life-threatening brain haemorrhages, particularly subarachnoid haemorrhage, in rural New Zealand compared to urban areas.

A study from Auckland University of Technology has found that life-threatening brain haemorrhages, particularly subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), are more frequent and deadlier in rural New Zealand compared to urban areas. Over 18 years, 5,500 cases were analyzed, revealing higher incidence rates among women, Māori, and Pacific peoples in specific rural districts. Key recommendations include improving prevention and timely hospitalization, as well as addressing smoking and high blood pressure.
