The Enugu State Government in Nigeria has reaffirmed a N40 daily mortuary tax aimed at reducing prolonged corpse storage in morgues. This tax, applicable to mortuary owners for bodies not buried within 24 hours, is not new and seeks to promote timely burials rather than generate revenue. Emmanuel Nnamani, head of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, emphasized that the policy does not impede families' burial rights.
