A suspect in Chicago was shot by police following a confrontation over suspected aggravated assault and a gun.

Early Saturday in Brighton Park, Chicago, a police officer shot a man suspected of aggravated assault during a confrontation. Responding to a report of a person with a gun, officers found the suspect armed. When they attempted to disarm him, he fired at them, prompting return fire from an officer, injuring the suspect. The man is in stable condition at a hospital. An investigation is underway by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, and involved officers are on administrative duty.
