26 Oct., Mikaela Shiffrin skips downhill races, targets giants, slalom, super-G; seeks 100th win without downhill risk, world championships in Austria in Feb.

Mikaela Shiffrin, the American ski star with 97 World Cup wins, will not compete in downhill events this season as she pursues her 100th career victory. Instead, she will focus on slalom, giant slalom, and super-G races, beginning with a giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, on October 26. Shiffrin's decision stems from the dangers of downhill racing, and the season will include world championships in Austria in February.
