Meta removes 51 fake accounts targeting Moldova's election, linked to Russian-language news outlets.
Meta Platforms Inc. has taken down a network of fake accounts targeting Russian-speaking audiences in Moldova ahead of the October 20 election. The accounts criticized President Maia Sandu and her pro-EU government while promoting pro-Russia parties. Meta removed a total of 51 accounts across Facebook and Instagram, which were linked to fictitious Russian-language news outlets. The Moldovan government has condemned Russian interference, which Russia counters by alleging "Russophobia."
