Environment Canterbury is testing contactless payment technology on Route 29, connecting Christchurch's CBD and the airport, starting December 2024. Passengers can use debit or credit cards for the $2 fare, while MetroCards and cash will remain options. This pilot supports the rollout of the national Motu Move ticketing system, launching in Timaru and Temuka in early 2025, with Greater Christchurch to follow.
