DCGI plans to expand QR code requirement for drug packaging, including vaccines, to combat counterfeit medicines.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) plans to extend the QR code requirement for drug packaging beyond the initial 300 brands established in November 2022 to combat counterfeit medicines. This initiative includes mandatory QR codes for vaccines. The Central Drug Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has also ordered recalls of products failing quality standards and is enforcing compliance measures against violations.
