Onehunga residents prohibited from drinking local aquifer water due to PFAS chemicals; $41M upgrade by 2027 to eliminate PFAS.

Residents of Onehunga, Auckland, are prohibited from drinking local aquifer water due to traces of PFAS chemicals. The local water treatment plant was shut down two years ago to comply with new regulations. A $41 million upgrade, scheduled for completion in 2027, will implement advanced filtration and treatment technologies to eliminate PFAS. In the interim, residents are receiving water from Auckland's main metropolitan network, which includes fluoride.
