Idaho State Department of Agriculture treats Snake River with copper-based chemical Natrix to combat invasive quagga mussels.

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is treating the Snake River with a copper-based chemical, Natrix, to combat invasive quagga mussels, first detected in 2023. The 10-day treatment will run from Hansen Bridge to Centennial Waterfront Park, with a second application planned for November. While EPA-approved and safe for drinking water, Natrix has caused significant fish mortality in prior treatments. Public access is restricted during the process.
