A study has revealed that several popular anti-acne products, including Proactiv and Clearasil, contain high levels of benzene, a carcinogen. About one-third of tested benzoyl peroxide products exceeded safe benzene limits, with some items showing levels up to 18 times higher than FDA guidelines. This has prompted calls for the FDA to regulate these products, as benzene levels can increase with UV exposure. The findings support earlier research despite initial criticism.
