OEP found NI's Daera non-compliant with ammonia emissions law, paused protocol, and a new strategy with OEP recommendations is anticipated.
The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) found that Northern Ireland's Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (Daera) failed to comply with environmental law regarding ammonia emissions advice for planners. The OEP closed its investigation as Daera paused and reinstated the Operational Protocol, which assesses livestock applications. A new ammonia strategy and protocol are anticipated later this year, with OEP recommendations aimed at ensuring legal compliance.
