1776 Continental Dollar coin, discovered in a toffee tin, sold for £25,000 ($32,000) after authentication by Numismatic Guaranty Company.
A rare Continental Dollar coin from 1776, discovered in a toffee tin, sold for £25,000 ($32,000) at Wotton Auction Rooms in Gloucestershire. Only around 6,000 were minted, with approximately 100 still existing today. Due to the coin’s rarity and potential for counterfeits, it was authenticated by the Numismatic Guaranty Company in the U.S. before the auction. Auctioneer Joseph Trinder called it one of the top discoveries of his career.
