Gujarat has expanded its cotton cultivation by 9 lakh hectares over the last 20 years, now covering 26.8 lakh hectares, making it India's second-largest cotton producer. With a productivity rate of 589 kg per hectare, the state has significantly increased output, aided by the local hybrid-4 variety. Gujarat is a leader in developing new hybrid varieties, including BT cotton, and aims to further enhance its role in meeting global demand for cotton and related products.
