UN's world food price index rose 10.4% in sugar due to Brazil and India crop concerns, with overall food prices increasing.

In September, the United Nations' world food price index rose to 124.4 points, its largest increase in 18 months, driven by a 10.4% surge in sugar prices due to crop concerns in Brazil and India's ethanol policy. Cereal prices increased by 3%, alongside a 4.6% rise in vegetable oils and a 3.8% jump in dairy prices. The FAO slightly raised its global cereal production forecast for 2024 but reduced projected cereal stocks for 2025 by 1.7 million tonnes.
