2021 Malaita premier arrested for organizing protests against PM Sogavare, resulting in Honiara violence and $60m damages.

Daniel Suidani, the former premier of Malaita province in the Solomon Islands, has been arrested for organizing unlawful protests in 2021. The protests, which demanded the resignation of then-Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, led to violence in Honiara, resulting in three deaths and damages exceeding $60 million. Suidani, a critic of the government's ties with China, claims the charges are politically motivated.
