UCLA researchers develop new CORE score for assessing surgical mortality risk based on chronic illnesses.

UCLA researchers have created the Comorbid Operative Risk Evaluation (CORE) score, a new tool for assessing surgical mortality risk by factoring in chronic illnesses. Unlike previous models, the CORE score, ranging from 0 to 100, is specifically tailored for surgical patients. Developed using data from 699,155 patients, this scoring system aims to enhance the accuracy of mortality risk assessments and improve surgical outcome analyses. The study is published in the Annals of Surgery.
