Amtrak, NJ Transit, and MTA's study finds no adequate solutions for New York Penn Station overcrowding with the Gateway Tunnel project's doubling of train traffic.

A joint study by Amtrak, NJ Transit, and MTA found four proposed solutions to overcrowding at New York Penn Station inadequate for accommodating increased train traffic from the $16 billion Hudson River rail tunnels project. Amtrak aims to double peak-hour train movements from 24 to 48, necessitating a station expansion that may require additional property and demolitions. The Gateway Tunnel project is fully funded and set to be operational by 2035.
