On October 2, 2024, Miyazaki Airport in Japan suspended all flights due to a minor, unexplained explosion that occurred about 100 meters from the terminal. No injuries were reported, but part of a taxiway caved in as a result of the blast. Investigations by police and fire officials are ongoing. The airport, which has historical ties to World War II, previously experienced incidents involving unexploded ordnance in 2009 and 2011.
