Commercial flying has become significantly safer since the 1980s, with the average annual incidents dropping from 38.8 (1982-1992) to 6.8 (2013-2023). Despite this, heightened media coverage and social media exposure of in-flight incidents contribute to a public perception of increased danger. A recent Harris Poll revealed that nearly two-thirds of respondents feel unsafe flying due to these reports, particularly affecting those with a predisposition to flight anxiety.
