Gavin Creel, a celebrated Broadway actor known for roles in "Hello, Dolly!" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie," has died at 48 from metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a rare cancer. Diagnosed in July, he had been receiving care at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Creel was a Tony Award winner and a vocal advocate for marriage equality. He is survived by his family and partner. Donations in his memory are requested for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
