Researchers at IIT Madras developed a laser heating method to enhance retinal drug delivery, reducing drug reach time from 12 hours to 12 minutes.

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras have developed a method using mild laser heating to enhance drug delivery to the human eye. By inducing convection, this technique significantly reduces the time it takes for drugs to reach the retina from 12 hours to just 12 minutes. The findings, published in the Wiley Heat Transfer journal, could improve treatments for various retinal disorders affecting millions, including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
