In September, over 9,635 patients were treated without beds in Irish hospitals, with more than 3,000 on trolleys in the most overcrowded facilities. The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) highlighted University Hospital Limerick, Cork University Hospital, and Galway University Hospital as particularly strained. INMO's Dr. Edwards Mathews called for an end to recruitment caps and the urgent implementation of a safe staffing framework to address these issues, especially as winter approaches.
