Maryland's Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) has implemented reforms to its detention policies, which now require electronic monitoring for youths accused of violent felonies before their court appearances. Additionally, those already monitored will be detained if charged with a violent crime. The DJS also established a 26-member Commission on Juvenile Justice Reform to evaluate services and support for girls in the system, focusing on improving rehabilitation and accountability.
