Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirms MSX parasite spread in Prince Edward Island oyster industry.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed the spread of the MSX parasite, which poses a significant threat to Prince Edward Island's oyster industry. Detected in various locations, including East River and Malpeque Bay, MSX primarily affects oysters aged two years or older, leading to mortality rates as high as 95% within two to three years. While it does not harm human health, oysters are already dying in Bedeque Bay.
