The University of Melbourne has appointed Emma Johnston as its first female vice-chancellor, succeeding Duncan Maskell. A distinguished marine biologist with over 20 years of experience, Johnston has previously served as deputy vice-chancellor of research at the University of Sydney and held key positions at the University of NSW. She will officially begin her role in February, aiming to address challenges in higher education while promoting research and education.
