University-aged student eating disorder helpline sessions at BEAT UK doubled in 5 years.

The UK charity BEAT reports that the number of university-aged students seeking help for eating disorders has more than doubled in five years. Between April 2023 and March 2024, they provided 15,120 helpline sessions to 18 to 22-year-olds, up from 6,620 in the same period from 2019 to 2020. The charity urges universities to improve support and calls on the government to enhance mental health resources, including hiring more staff and investing in community hubs.
