Canadian Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge is set to become the first openly lesbian cabinet minister to take parental leave when her wife gives birth in November. St-Onge will work virtually from early November, participating in debates and voting remotely. She publicly announced her leave to advocate for LGBTQ rights and to highlight progress made by Liberal governments, such as the decriminalization of homosexuality and the legalization of gay marriage.
