Eddy Charlie, co-founder of Orange Shirt Day, launched it to raise awareness of residential school impacts on Indigenous communities.

Eddy Charlie, a Vancouver Island resident and co-founder of Orange Shirt Day, overcame his traumatic experiences from the Kuper Island Residential School, where he suffered abuse and lifelong scars. After battling alcoholism and violence, Charlie found purpose in education at Camosun College, inspired by Indigenous elders. He and Kristin Spray launched Orange Shirt Day to raise awareness of residential school impacts on Indigenous communities, promoting healing and reconciliation.
