Deepfakes, or digitally manipulated media, threaten election integrity by misinforming and manipulating voters. They can be created easily and cheaply, leading to widespread dissemination on social media. While the FCC has banned certain deceptive audio clips and robocalls, deepfakes in campaign ads remain unregulated. Major tech companies have formed the "I Elections Accord" to identify and label deceptive content, but users must also educate themselves to detect deepfakes effectively.
