California High-Speed Rail Authority delays Merced and Bakersfield extensions due to unacquired properties in San Joaquin Valley.
The California High-Speed Rail Authority has not yet acquired nearly 50 properties essential for its bullet-train route in the San Joaquin Valley, despite over a decade of effort. While over $1.5 billion has been spent on land, negotiations and eminent domain proceedings are ongoing for the remaining parcels. The agency intends to delay awarding contracts for Merced and Bakersfield extensions until all necessary properties are secured and ready for construction.
