Nicole Hernandez, the former district clerk of Upshur County, was arrested for tampering with a government record, a class A misdemeanor. This follows an investigation initiated on August 29, coinciding with her resignation. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter and released on a $3,500 bond. Melissa Chevalier has since been appointed as her replacement. The inquiry was prompted by a request from District Attorney Billy Byrd.
