Indigenous communities conduct a ceremonial bison hunt in Banff National Park for the first time in 139 years.

Indigenous communities will conduct a ceremonial bison hunt in Banff National Park throughout October, marking the first such event in 139 years. Organized by the Indigenous Advisory Circle, the initiative aims to enhance Indigenous partnerships and revive traditional hunting practices. The bison herd, reintroduced in 2017, has grown significantly since its absence for nearly 160 years. Eight bison are allocated for the hunt, with one per IAC member.
