EAC recommends deregulating India's agroforestry sector for enhanced farmer livelihoods, reduced imports, and potential exports.

The Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to India's Prime Minister has recommended deregulating the agroforestry sector to enhance farmers' livelihoods and reduce timber imports. The proposals include exempting high-value native timber species from felling permits and shifting the proof of ownership from land to trees. This could help India transition from a net timber importer to an exporter, tapping into a global teak market valued at $43.26 billion.
