Heavy rainfall in Mumbai on September 25, 2024, resulted in severe waterlogging and transportation disruptions. A 45-year-old woman, Vimal Anil Gaikwad, drowned in an open drain in Andheri and was later declared dead at Cooper Hospital. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation closed schools and colleges on September 26 and advised residents to stay indoors due to a Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department for continued heavy rains.
