42-year-old cancer patient Mandy Wilk receives double-lung transplant through Northwestern Medicine's DREAM program.

Mandy Wilk, a 42-year-old woman with stage 4 colorectal cancer, became the first patient to receive a double-lung transplant through Northwestern Medicine’s DREAM program, which is unique in the U.S. for offering lung transplants to cancer patients. After extensive treatment, including a liver transplant, Wilk's cancer had returned in her lungs. Following the surgery, she shows no signs of cancer and plans to complete the Chicago Marathon.
