Qantas Airways fined $82M for misleading 1M passengers by selling tickets for 71K planned cancellations.

Qantas Airways misled nearly one million passengers by selling tickets for 71,000 flights it planned to cancel between May 2022 and May 2024. The airline settled a lawsuit with the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, agreeing to pay A$120 million (about $82 million) in fines and compensation. Customers were left uninformed about their bookings for an average of 11 days. Qantas has since updated its systems to prevent such incidents in the future.
