Norway launches first commercial CO2 transport & storage service in 2025 for European factories.

Norway is set to launch the Northern Lights project, the world's first commercial CO2 transport and storage service. This facility will capture CO2 emissions from European factories and store them in geological reservoirs beneath the seabed. A joint venture of Equinor, Shell, and TotalEnergies, it aims to begin operations in 2025 with an initial capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per year, expandable to five million. Concerns persist regarding its potential to prolong fossil fuel use.
