New Zealand's Education Minister, Erica Stanford, announced a $30 million cut to te reo Māori funding to enhance the maths curriculum, due to poor results—only 22% of Year 8 students meet standards, with just 12% of Māori students achieving that level. The funds will be redirected to create high-quality maths resources in both English and te reo Māori. Despite this shift, the government remains committed to revitalizing te reo Māori education.
