New Zealand aims to improve student attendance by implementing new measures, including possible prosecution for excessive truancy, by 2030.

New Zealand's Associate Education Minister, David Seymour, has announced new measures to combat school truancy, including possible prosecution for parents of students absent for 15 days or more. Schools will be prohibited from holding teacher-only days during term time and must implement a Stepped Attendance Response plan by 2026. The government aims for 80% of students to attend 90% of the term by 2030, while also enhancing collaboration among agencies to address attendance issues.
