Speaking at the book launch, Jonathan asserted that such a loss would have hindered salary payments and clarified that Sanusi was suspended for reasons unrelated to the alleged funds. He noted an audit revealed only $1.48 billion unaccounted for, which the NNPC was instructed to pay back to the federal account.
