The U.S. Commerce Department has awarded a $123 million grant to Polar Semiconductor for expanding its Minnesota plant, nearly doubling its production capacity for power and sensor chips. This funding is the first from the $52.7 billion CHIPS and Science Act, aimed at enhancing U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. The expansion, supported by a $75 million state contribution, will create over 160 jobs and boost monthly production from 20,000 to 40,000 wafers.
