Somerville, MA reinstates Central Library regular hours next week, adds private security and security cameras due to disruptive teen behavior.

Somerville, Massachusetts, is reinstating regular hours at its Central Library next week after temporary afternoon closures due to disruptive behavior from teens. In response to safety concerns, the city is hiring private security trained in de-escalation to monitor the library. Security cameras have also been installed, and plans are in place to connect at-risk youth with support services. The library will remain closed to students during modified hours, but other branches will remain accessible.
